AWARD JUDGES 2010

Ken Bronikowski Wisconsin artist Ken Bronikowski retired in 1996 after 44 years as an illustrator in the Milwaukee area.  During his years as an illustrator in the commercial art field he worked on numerous national and local accounts.
"I paint in oils and acrylics. Many of my oil studies are painted Alla Prima meaning they are done on location, direct and without any preliminary sketching or compositional studies, and finished in one painting session."
He studied life drawing and oil painting/portraiture under William H. Mosby at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, Illinois. In addition to painting he taught basic drawing, oil painting and portrait sketching at the West Bend Art Museum and Alverno College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

"Now I finally have the opportunity to pursue fine art completely, of which I will include portraiture, figurative painting and studies, landscapes, still lifes and wildlife art."

Paula Swaydan-Grebel grew up in California, where she acquired her BFA at California State University Long Beach in 1981. There she was able to study under renowned LA artist John Lincoln. She moved to Wisconsin in 1995 and found the countryside a perfect outlet for plein air painting. She has studied under such leading artists as Dan Gerhartz, Ken Auster, George Strickland and Peggy Kroll-Roberts.
"Painting is how I experience and understand the world around me. I enjoy both its intellectual and emotional challenges. Life is fleeting, and I attempt to capture this through a process of putting onto and taking away from the canvas. I begin with a design and solid drawing as my foundation. Then, after paint is applied, I may scrape away, smear, redraw or whatever it takes to accomplish the finished picture. My medium is oil paint, thick and juicy."
Paula Swaydan-Grebel has won numerous awards for her plein air painting, including the "Best of Show" at our 2005 Cedarburg Plein Air event.
